Exercise Stress Test
During the test your ECG, heart rate, rhythm and blood pressure will be monitored.
How do I prepare for an exercise stress test?
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
- Sport shoes
- Ask your Dr if you take your regular medications prior
- Avoid eating for at least 3 hours prior to test.
- Avoid caffeine (tea, coffee, cola and chocolate) for 24 hours before the test.
What happens during the test?
During the stress test you will be asked to walk on the treadmill until you reach your target heart rate, which is 85% of your maximum heart rate. Every 3 minutes the speed, incline and resistance will increase.
During the test your ECG, heart rate, rhythm and blood pressure will be monitored. They will stop the test if you have chest pain, ECG changes, you become too tired or any other symptom.
What happens after the test?
- You will be monitored until your heart rate returns to normal resting rate.
- You will need a follow up appointment with either a specialist or General practitioner for the results.
